New York – It’s the dawn of a new era in Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.
Patrick Bertoletti of Chicago won the men’s division. 58 hot dogs and buns.
“I’m in the greatest country in the world, the greatest eating competition in the world, it’s perfect, perfect,” Bertoletti said.
For the first time in years, the men’s competition was held. It was wide open.with Joey Chestnut is not competing..
The competition was close from the start in Chestnut’s absence.
Bertoletti, ranked ninth in the world in the food game according to the Pro League, took an early lead, closely followed by Jeffrey Esper of Oxford, Massachusetts, and Nick Wehrey of Tampa, Florida. Australia’s James Webb briefly took the lead midway through the competition. But Bertoletti came back strong, holding the lead until the end.
Esper came in second with 53 points, while Webb came in third with 52 points.

Why Joey Chestnut Didn’t Compete This Year
Chestnut, a 16-time champion, is not making an appearance this year because of his partnership with a rival company that makes plant-based sausages. Instead, he will appear at Fort Bliss, Texas, where he will compete with four service members at 5 p.m.
Chestnut holds the record for eating 76 hot dogs and a bun in 2021.
Miki Sudo Sets New Record in Women’s Division
Miki Sudo sets new record in women’s division Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest 2024 With 51 hot dogs and a bun.
Sudo, 38, has won every tournament since 2014 except 2021, when she missed the tournament due to pregnancy. Her previous personal best was 48.5 sausage and bread, which she broke this year with 51.
“I think what this means for the women’s game is first and foremost that our personal bests will continue to rise, the records will continue to rise. After 10 years, I still have more to offer, and you’re not done with me yet,” she said.
Sudo successfully defended her title for the tenth time. As the world’s best eater, Sudo managed to overcome a strong challenge from Japan’s Mayoi Ebihara, who ate 37 kilograms.
Sudo thanked Ebihara for his “great support.”
Sudo said she was “emotionally affected” and “really wanted to win.”
Sudo is married to fellow competitor Nicholas Wehrey. With 51 titles, she has now surpassed his total of 48.
Michelle Lesko came in third in the women’s division with 23 hot dogs and bagels.
Thousands of spectators attended the annual parade at the popular Nathan’s restaurant on Surf and Stillwell streets. The parade also featured dance and music performances.
The Fourth of July tradition dates back to 1916.
In addition to winning the coveted Yellow Mustard Belt, there is a $20,000 cash prize.
At Thursday’s event, Eric “Badlands” Booker set a new record at the Nathan’s Lemonade Drinking Contest, downing a gallon in 21 seconds.
As always, Nathan’s Famous is donating 100,000 hot dogs to the New York City Food Bank.
