Republican National Committee co-chair Laura Trump said Sunday that Maryland Republican Senate candidate Larry Hogan doesn’t deserve the respect of any Republican after insisting Americans respect him. Verdict in Donald Trump money probe Before it is delivered.

Speaking to CNN’s Kasie Hunt on “State of the Union,” Laura Trump called Hogan’s comments “ridiculous” and said the former Maryland governor “should have thought long and hard” before making his statement.

“I’ll tell you one thing, I don’t support what he said there. I think it’s ridiculous,” said Laura Trump, the former president’s niece. “He’s not respected by anybody in the Republican Party at this point, frankly, anybody in America, if you feel that way. It’s very sad to hear that.”

Last week, Hogan urged Americans to “respect judgment and the legal process” before a Manhattan grand jury. Donald Trump was convicted All 34 counts of falsifying business records. The unprecedented and historic verdict makes Trump the first former president in US history to be convicted of a felony.

“At this dangerously divisive moment in our history, all leaders—regardless of party—should not add fuel to the fire with more toxic discrimination. “We must reaffirm what has made this nation great: the rule of law,” Hogan said.

Asked Sunday if the RNC would withhold money from Hogan’s campaign, Laura Trump declined to answer directly, but again called Hogan’s statement “absurd.”

“I’ll get back to you on all the details in terms of money. But what I can tell you is, as the co-chairman of the Republican Party, I don’t think he should ever say that,” he said.

Hogan’s victory in Maryland’s Senate seat would be a boon for Republicans in the Democratic caucus. He was elected as the governor for the first time in 2014. Won re-election in 2018 and left office in January 2023 with high approval ratings.

In recent decades, Maryland has been dominated by the Democratic Party at the state and federal levels. George HW Bush was the last Republican presidential candidate to win the Old Line State in 1988.

Laura Trump added on Sunday that “the American people have really spoken” after the cuts.

“The American people came out, and in the 48 hours after Donald Trump’s verdict was read, our campaign and the RNC raised $70 million in digital fundraising,” he said.

“I think it’s been a very quick, very quick and very strong response from the American people. It’s gone too far,” Laura Trump added. “The American people are upset, and they’ve spoken about it.”
