Russian border regions report power outages after Ukrainian attacks

Drone strikes have cut off electricity and gas supplies and damaged telephone lines in Russia’s Belgorod region on the border with Ukraine, Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said.

“There is damage to telephone cables, gas and electricity supplies. Electricity has been cut off in a series of villages,” Gladkov wrote on his Telegram channel.

He mentioned the villages of Grayvoron and Krasnaya Yaruga, west of the city of Belgorod, and Shpekino, southeast of the regional capital. The three villages are located near the border with Ukraine.

Local media reported that the city of Belgorod itself and the town of Oskol, northeast of Belgorod, were also affected. They attributed the power outage to a destroyed substation.

In the Kursk region bordering Ukraine and the Belgorod region, Governor Alexei Smirnov warned that “due to technical problems on power lines in neighboring regions, there may be a shortage of electrical capacity in the Kursk region.”

Smirnov said that the Kursk region was attacked by drones during the night, with air defenses shooting down seven Ukrainian drones.
